How fun are these? I used a white and silver sparkle sweater knit from Simply by Ti Fabrics.  We absolutely love sparkles in our house!  This fabric did not disappoint.  It is hard to capture all the sparkles in the the pictures, however there are lots of them there!

At first Baby Girl was a little apprehensive with the sparkly fabric.  I think she thought the fabric would be scratchy, however she was happy to realize it was nice and soft.  Just like her previous Catherine Poncho, she ended up not wanting to take it off. She wore to visit her Great Grandmother in hospice and to the playground with her Grandparents.  She never once took it off and kept telling us how much she loved it!

The Mommy and Me Catherine Ponchos are very simple to make.  Most ponchos patterns I have come across just gives you approximations or measurements for your pattern pieces, however the Seamingly Smitten Catherine Poncho comes with actual pattern pieces!  I have now made 5 Catherine Ponchos!  I made one out of a brown sweater knit.  It went together super quick as I did not hem the poncho.  Hemming the ponchos takes the longest out of the whole process.

The hemming is not hard, there is just a lot of fabric to hem.  I do my hems a little bit differently than the instruction, mostly because I am lazy.  I do a hem similar to the DIBY Club curved hem tutorial, but the lazy way. Afterwards, I baste a long straight stitch at the hem seam allowance, then I fold the seam under.  The basted stitch will be on the fold, then I clip it and top stitch it down.  Does that make sense?  Let me know if you would be interested in seeing a video in the comments below.

The Mommy and Me Catherine Ponchos were perfect for one of our last few warm days in December.  68 degrees in December!  Wow, what beautiful weather!  It supposed to be a high of 31 later this week, so we may be wearing these inside too soon. Brr!  I did go up a size for my daughter this time.  Last time I did a 2T and this time I made the 4T, as I wanted her to get longer use out her new super adorable poncho.  I also made the cowl this time without a hood.

I think it fits her well, with plenty of room to likely last her a year, maybe 2.  They grow through clothes so quickly and I just loved this poncho and fabric, I wanted to make sure we were able to get a lot of use out of it.

  1. I love your suggestion on hemming the poncho. Hemming the poncho was my least favorite part but I’ll use your tip for my next poncho. Your and your daughter’s turned out so cute! Love the fabric!

  2. You both look very good! Your pink version was very cute and this one suits you just as well. Sadly my phone doesn’t show the sparkly (imagine a sad face here) and your hemming technique sounds very good, I need to try that!
