Anyone else as excited as I am for the new women’s True Beauty Dress sewing pattern by Ellie and Mac? Before I had kids, I wore a lot of off the shoulder or strapless dresses. My wardrobe completely changed once I had children. Now they are getting a little older, I can slowly start going back to my old, but now revamped style.

My style has changed since then, as so has my body. Also, I did not buy a sewing machine until Little Dude was about 6 months old. It is then, I taught myself to sew. Now that I am starting to lose my weight from having children and I am learning so much more about sewing, I can now create my own style. It is something I have dreamed of doing since I was little girl. However, I never actually dreamed it would actually happen.
I used to dream up different style clothes in different colors in my mind. I am sure the True Beauty Dress sewing pattern would have fit in with all those wonderful designs in my head. You can find the sewing pattern here!
It is a perfect not too dressy, but not too casual dress. Depending on your fabric choice, you cold tone it down or fuss it up. I bought this gorgeous navy floral double brushed polyester from So Sew English Fabrics. They have amazing fabrics. When I ran my Mommy and Me leggings business, this is where I purchased most of my fabrics. They usually stock even more beautiful fabric every Thursday evening.
The off the shoulder width can be customized to your exact size with your own measurement or you may use the length of elastic listed in the pattern. Personally, I went ahead and tried the elastic length listed in the pattern to see how it would fit. It fits well. If you are not into the off the shoulder look or need a more business casual look, you can pull the sleeves up onto the shoulders as well. I meant to grab a picture, however I was a little distracted.
You know how when you are trying to take pictures of your children and you end up having to bribe them? It happens a lot in this house. LOL! Well, every time I try to take pictures of myself Baby Girl always wants to jump in the picture as well. I do not mind, it is such a cute picture.
Baby Girl, decided to run off an pretend to perform “her show.” She is hilarious. The bodice of the dress fits well and is flexible for many body shapes. Clear elastic is added to the bottom of the bodice to give it more shape and structure. It is nice to know my new True Beauty dress will not overstretch with wear and washing.
The Skirt of the True Beauty Dress sewing pattern has three options: Tunic, Above the Knee and Maxi lengths. My first version was tunic length and this version I made in the above the knee length. I am only 5’0″ tall and did not take off any additional length, so if you are taller the above the knee length would be a tad shorter. I decided to keep it longer, as I do have two children and I may need to often bend down to help them or pick them up while wearing the dress. If I decide to go a shorter length, I may always change that later.
Even though I have lost 25 lbs this year, my Mommy tummy is still trying to stick around. My Mommy tummy, now more of pouch, is nicely concealed in this dress and it does not make me look pregnant. Until I starting focusing on losing weight last year, I would get a comment almost every day “When are you due?” As I mentioned above, I am only 5’0″ so my torso is short and any extra weight protrudes easily. I am working on it and almost there. Hopefully…. There will be another blog post later today or tomorrow to see more of my success in my weight loss journey.
There is of course the back of the dress, which fits well. If you noticed my phone in this picture, let me tell you why! I am so excited. My battery in my remote for my camera died a long time ago and I keep forgetting to replace it. Well the hubby bought me a new Canon Rebel T6i for Christmas (you can find one here) and I love it! My old Canon Rebel T1i did not have video and it did not have something I never knew I needed… built in wifi! With the built in wifi I was able to download the Cannon Camera app: Camera Connect. I am able to see myself on the screen, choose my focus point, center myself in the photo, make sure the entire dress in the photo… It is amazing!! I cannot wait to play with it more!
