Mommy and Me Matching Robes- DIY

Mommy and Me Matching Robes DIY

So Sew English Fabrics ran a contest to win a coverstitch, so I had to try to win! ( didn’t win.) I want a coverstitch so so much.  The contest was to find a pinterest picture and recreate it using their gorgeous fabrics!!!  They are by far my favorite fabric company (and no I am not being compensated in any way to say this).    I chose to use this green and pink boho mandala fabric in double brushed polyester. So so pretty.  This post may contain affiliate links, please send the end of the post for more information.

I whipped both these robes  up in the same day, making some minor changes to both patterns.  I searched for a matching Mommy and me robe pattern, without any success. For my robe I used the Patterns for Pirates Summer Kimono (aff link).  I am super short, only 5’0″ tall, so I made it at the straight hem length and it works quite well.  In fact, I now love the Summer Kimono and want to make a million more of them.  It is perfect to wear with leggings (covering the booty) and we all know I love my Giggle Poo Mommy and Me leggings.

For daughter’s robe, I found it difficult to find a child size robe in a knit fabric, so I used Peek-a-Boo Pattern’s Comfy Cozy Robe for kids.  To make it look more like my robe, I made quite a few changes.  Although the robe pattern is designed for woven fabric, I used it with knit and it worked well.  I skipped the hood, the cowl and the binding.  I wanted it to look like mine and the contest ended the next day.  I just folded over the edges around the neck 1/2 an inch and top stitched.  Of course, it would have looked better with a coverstitch, but I made it work without one.  My son gets photo credits.  He did an amazing job, especially since my daughter was less than cooperative and was not really digging the rollers, but she loved her robe.  🙂

I would also like to give credit to the original photo.  The gorgeous Mommy and Me robes are by Silk and More on Etsy and the Mommy and Me robe set can be purchased here.

Here are a couple more pictures my son took:

About Seams Sew Lo 173 Articles
Hi I'm Lo and I love to sew and I also love to play with my two children! I am a work at home Mom of two toddlers.  I never planned on staying home with the kids, however when I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant with my first child, Little Dude, I was unexpectedly let go from my corporate job.  With a newborn and a tough job market, I decided to buy a Brother Sewing/Embroidery Machine and taught myself to sew. I would like to thank the many bloggers, youtube videos I have watched and PDF pattern designers for all their help. With a degree in International Business from Blaise-Pascal University in France I decided to open my own business, an Etsy shop.  I started making baby leg warmers and then added embroidered bodysuits.  I was so busy I couldn't keep up and had to seek out third party help. After my second child, Baby Girl, life became super busy.  There is something about little girls clothes that makes them so much fun to create.  I started venturing out to more articles of clothing.  It has been a fun adventure. I am learning as I go.  I sometimes skip steps or take short cuts, sometimes I take a long road to get where I need to go.  I don't think sewing needs to be perfect, I think it should be fun!!
