Dollar Tree Easy Pumpkin Decorating Kits. Great for kids

Both of my kids are home sick today.  First Baby Girl started off with Baby Girl waking up with a fever a couple days ago and then Little Dude woke up this morning with a fever.  I hope they get better soon.  It is a great thing, I just happened to stop by Dollar Tree last night and picked up these foam carvable pumpkins and easy pumpkin decorating kits.

These little push in decorations are not a new concept in our house.  In fact, we have some of the Mr. Potato Head Push Ins.  I do not believe they make them anymore, so you would probably have to do what I did and grab them here on eBay. We tried them with the kids last year, however they were just too difficult for the kids to push in, especially when using real pumpkins. So, when I saw these Easy Pumpkin Decorating kits (here) and the Foam Carvable Pumpkins (here), I knew I had to buy them.

Baby Girl is only 3 and she was able to easily push in the pieces from Easy Pumpkin Decorating Kits into the foam carvable pumpkins.  She, of course, loved the one that came with the cute pink bow.  In fact, the Easy Pumpkin Decorating Kits were so simple, she finished most of her first pumpkin, while Little Dude and I were still reading through the instructions on his first pumpkin.

Baby Girl was so excited with her final product.  The pumpkin decorating kit pieces would fit better if spaced according to the picture.  However, I am a big believer on letting my kids do it themselves.  When I was younger, in Girl Scouts, I remember we were making crafts for a fundraiser.  I was so proud of my little chicken on a fence craft, until I showed up at the fundraiser the next day and one of the leaders “fixed my painting.”  My Mom ended up buying it, however it was not till years later that I told her how upset it made me.  There is was too, a constant reminder in our house.  So, as hard as it may be, I never fix my kids art work.  I may try to help guide them, but never fix it.  I think Baby Girl’s little skeleton pumpkin is just perfect!

While Baby Girl was storming through her first pumpkin on her own, Little Dude and I were working on his pumpkin, the mummy pumpkin decorating kit.  He did most of it himself.  I did help peel the paper off the back off the back of the googly eyes, as I needed to use my fingernails.  He was able to do everything else on his own.  I did help guide him on where to put the mummy wrap and where to add the adhesives to hold on the wrap.  Otherwise he did it completely on his own. (He’s 6).

His Mummy Pumpkin turned out great!  He is even cuter, I mean scarier, in person!  For the next pumpkin decorating kits, the kids switched.  Little Dude did not need my help this time and Baby Girl needed a little extra help.

Actually, Little Dude made his Bat Pumpkin Decorating Kit super fast!  It was so easy and fun for him.  The Bat kit is his favorite one.  He loves scary, so this one was perfect for him.

Baby Girl tried the witch.

Just as I did with my son, I helped take the paper of the back of the googly eyes and mouth.  She quickly tried to put on the lumpy witch nose, however she easily gave up and asked for my help.  I think my older child would have been fine putting it on.  I did change one thing.

The instructions for the Witch Pumpkin Decorating Kit states to place the stickers on the top of the pumpkin, then place the hat on top of the pumpkin.  Baby Girl was all, “Me do it!”, so I had her place the stickers on the hat then, the hat on top of the pumpkin.  She had fun with this easy pumpkin decorating kit as well.

The Witch Pumpkin turned out so cute!!  It is so whimsical and was easy enough, Baby Girl felt like she made it herself.

Overall, it was a fun activity (without a mess) for kids, especially when they were not feeling well.  I highly recommend the Easy Pumpkin Decorating Kits (here) and the Carvable Pumpkins (here) from Dollar Tree.  I may have saved a pumpkin to decorate myself 🙂 Give me some ideas on how I should decorate in the comments below and I will let you know how it goes.

These would also be great for Halloween Party Activities.  I am thinking of buying a bulk order for Baby Girl’s School Halloween Party.
