Bug Felties with a Brothers SE400. This post may contain affiliate links, please see end of post for more informationDay 2 of our Insect Lore Live Butterfly Growing Kit and our little caterpillars are very lazy today.  They have all moved, but I haven’t seen them actually move.  I am guessing they are recovering from the long trip they had to make to our house. In the meantime. I decided to make the kids some caterpillar felties with my Brother SE400 embroidery machine.

Stabilizer is one of the most important steps of embroidery, each project works best with different types.  I used a sticky tear away stabilizer by Pellon. It helps hold the felt to the stabilizer and makes it easy to tear away when you are finished.  You could buy felt by the yard, but when working with these little felties I really enjoy this pack of felt squares, as you get several colors instead of yards of all the same color.

I let the kids pick out their felt color and their thread colors.  Little Dude, choose the black felt, because his caterpillars from the Live Butterfly Kit are black.  He also choose red for the eyes for an “evil caterpillar”  Even though he is one of the sweetest boys, he loves his bad guys.  LOL  The caterpillar feltie is so cute, I’m not sure you could actually make him look evil though.

Baby girl loves her sparkles and her pink.  A girl after my own heart.  She chose pink felt and metallic embroidery thread.  Metallic thread is gorgeous when done, but can be a pain when you use it, as it breaks a lot.  Sometimes the metallic embroidery thread works well and sometimes you are rethreading the machine often.

About Seams Sew Lo 173 Articles
Hi I'm Lo and I love to sew and I also love to play with my two children! I am a work at home Mom of two toddlers.  I never planned on staying home with the kids, however when I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant with my first child, Little Dude, I was unexpectedly let go from my corporate job.  With a newborn and a tough job market, I decided to buy a Brother Sewing/Embroidery Machine and taught myself to sew. I would like to thank the many bloggers, youtube videos I have watched and PDF pattern designers for all their help. With a degree in International Business from Blaise-Pascal University in France I decided to open my own business, an Etsy shop.  I started making baby leg warmers and then added embroidered bodysuits.  I was so busy I couldn't keep up and had to seek out third party help. After my second child, Baby Girl, life became super busy.  There is something about little girls clothes that makes them so much fun to create.  I started venturing out to more articles of clothing.  It has been a fun adventure. I am learning as I go.  I sometimes skip steps or take short cuts, sometimes I take a long road to get where I need to go.  I don't think sewing needs to be perfect, I think it should be fun!!
