As a Simply By Ti Fabrics Ambassador, I had the opportunity to to try the Rebecca Page Portia Party Dress! The fabric requirements for this fun dress calls for a fabric with a good drape.  I really wanted to use the Black with Silver Sparkle Poly Spandex, however someone already had called dibs on that one.  I was searching the Simply by Ti website for the perfect fabric, when I realized I already had the perfect fabric on hand!

(No this is no a futuristic photo shoot, Baby Girl is standing on our ottoman that has a lighted glass portion.  She did not want to stand still for he photo shoot, so I was trying all of my options.  I am working on my indoor photography.  Santa just brought me a new Canon Rebel T6i for Christmas, so I am hoping it will help!)

Originally, I purchased this gorgeous Wine Ombre Double Brushed Polyester for a dress for myself.  I was testing a pattern and before it got to finals they decided it needed more of a stable knit fabric.  I have been searching for just the perfect project for this gorgeous fabric and it was meant to be a Portia Party dress.

Here Baby Girl is looking like she is throwing gang signs.  LOL!  What is really happening in this picture is my phone is she is looking down to watch videos on my phone.  I may have edited out my phone is this photo.  😉

Since double brushed polyester does not have the most drape, I took the pattern instructions’ advice and I did not hem the sleeves nor the bottom of the dress to give it more drape.  Yes, the instructions made me do it!

I think the dress looks great not hemmed.  May I just mention my stripe matching on this dress?  Yes, I am going to toot my own horn on this one.  I love the way the ombre flows with this dress!  The back of the dress calls for ribbon, however I did not have any on hand, so instead I used some sparkly wine colored elastic.  It matched perfectly.

About Seams Sew Lo 173 Articles
Hi I'm Lo and I love to sew and I also love to play with my two children! I am a work at home Mom of two toddlers.  I never planned on staying home with the kids, however when I was 8 and 1/2 months pregnant with my first child, Little Dude, I was unexpectedly let go from my corporate job.  With a newborn and a tough job market, I decided to buy a Brother Sewing/Embroidery Machine and taught myself to sew. I would like to thank the many bloggers, youtube videos I have watched and PDF pattern designers for all their help. With a degree in International Business from Blaise-Pascal University in France I decided to open my own business, an Etsy shop.  I started making baby leg warmers and then added embroidered bodysuits.  I was so busy I couldn't keep up and had to seek out third party help. After my second child, Baby Girl, life became super busy.  There is something about little girls clothes that makes them so much fun to create.  I started venturing out to more articles of clothing.  It has been a fun adventure. I am learning as I go.  I sometimes skip steps or take short cuts, sometimes I take a long road to get where I need to go.  I don't think sewing needs to be perfect, I think it should be fun!!
